Challenge
Small Planet first partnered with NPD in 2013 to create the ReceiptPal app, helping to transform its data collection approach. From the beginning, we’ve iterated consistently on the product, and recently we were asked to redesign the app to support a significant expansion.
Solution
A top-to-bottom redesign with intuitive UX and brand-new features. ReceiptPal offers users a simple, perfect proposition for consumers: submit your receipts from retailers and earn points that can be redeemed for cash prizes, gift cards, and other great rewards. Submitting receipts and getting rewards is a fast and frictionless process. Past feature additions were brought under one design umbrella, and navigation was consolidated and modernized. The NPD Group is a leading market research organization that tracks, analyzes, and reports on consumer behavior. Users can easily connect their email and Amazon accounts to submit e-receipts automatically. We also added bonus-point minigames, social sharing options, and a refer-a-friend program to boost engagement. We employed a dedicated user acquisition campaign across multiple channels to increase awareness. Submitting receipts and getting rewards is a fast and frictionless process. Past feature additions were brought under one design umbrella, and navigation was consolidated and modernized.
Results
Over $3 million in rewards paid out 110k Monthly Active Users. After the release, the overhauled app suffered no attrition in users, and the retention rate actually improved. The overall user base increased dramatically, and user reviews spiked in both quantity and quality.
