Challenge

CICS (Chicago International Charter School) serves more than 8,300 K-12 students in its innovative and diverse charter schools throughout the Chicagoland area. CICS partnered with NeigerDesign to create a fresher, edgier new brand—as well sub-brands for its individual 14 schools/campuses—that would tout its identity of innovation, equity and excellence in education.

Solution

The foundation of the brandmark that NeigerDesign created is an open book, symbolizing the obvious—education. That open book forms a continuous line drawing, creating the Chicago skyline, featured in the forefront of a secondary, circular element. This background element is now left up to interpretation, whether the shape is read as a lightbulb (innovation) or a sun (hope), or both.

Results

NeigerDesign delivered a new brandmark—as well as versions for the CICS network and with campus names—and a Brand Standards guide to govern the use of the identity, along with a host of other collateral marketing material.
