Challenge

The situation The VMware sustainability team needed a plan—fast. And, with an all-company Earth Day event focused on eliminating single-use plastics less than two months away, the team also needed a message to mobilize VMware’s 20,000 employees worldwide.

Solution

What we did We built a campaign that spoke to VMware’s engineering culture with the message “CTRL ALT DELETE: Control consumption, choose alternatives and delete single-use plastics.” We built videos, memes, GIFs, posters and T-shirts to stir excitement for the global event. Each participating VMware location received an “event-in-a-box” package, containing all the campaign materials as well as set-up instructions.

Results

What happened next Employees shared the digital assets across their social landscape and were even seen hunting down single-use plastics for elimination. Attendance at the Earth Day event was triple that of the previous year. C-suite execs lauded the effort and asked for “more like this.”
