Royal Academy of Engineering
Challenge
As the UK’s national academy for engineering, the Royal Academy of Engineering brings together the most successful and talented engineers from across the engineering sectors to advance and promote excellence. The Royal Academy of Engineering (RAEng) was looking for a software development and design company to design, build, install and monitor a virtual event platform for their global Frontiers programme including a number of live events which were to be hosted on the platform.
Solution
We designed, wireframed and developed the whole platform within a six-week timeframe. We created an immersive, interactive, and intuitive user experience with a clear user journey. With the integration of a collaborative whiteboard, delegates were able to work together on projects. Delegates were able to upload and edit their profiles and projects. A content repository provided participants with content related to individual sub-themes including videos, links to external pages and downloadable PDF’s. There were also opportunities for delegates to collaborate with threaded chat and schedule 1-2-1 as well as group meetings through a meeting scheduler tool. We integrated an element of gamification to drive sustained user participation by encouraging positive competition via user scores, rewards, badges, and leader boards. Analytics were available in live time, to allow the Academy team to monitor the engagement with the platform
Results
We received excellent feedback from our client, applauding our project management process, design, and platform architecture. The core aims of the virtual Frontier’s symposia platform were networking and collaboration and feedback on the level of engagement on the platform has been exceptionally strong. Following the successful delivery of the first set of events, we have been contracted to build and deliver the next three phases of their programme.
