Challenge

A digital transformation is a significant undertaking for any organization, but often there is an additional challenge for non-profits in allocating time and resources for a large-scale project. Youth Science Canada (YSC), a national level non-profit association focused on supporting youth in STEM, heads a network of member organizations that reaches 25,000 Canadian youth annually through regional science fairs. To ensure long-term success and to give internal and external stakeholders the best experience possible, YSC needed to improve their digital ecosystem, including their web, mobile, social, and business systems.

Solution

In order to help YSC successfully move forward as a digital organization, Iversoft conducted a thorough research phase to assess the industry landscape and the association’s current state. Using insights gathered from internal stakeholders and audits of YSC’s systems architecture and information architecture, Iversoft identified the existing pain points surrounding the association’s digital structure. The solution needed to address not only the need for a cohesive digital experience for YSC’s audience, but a better way to connect their regional chapters to best capture and store relevant data across the entirety of the association. Iversoft saw the association’s need to re-position their website, which currently served staff and stakeholders more than the youth they wanted to target. The recommendations aimed to address bloat and serve as a leaner and action-oriented information architecture. Additionally, the digital strategy outlined two approaches to optimize YSC’s digital ecosystem. Based on factors surrounding time, budget, and work efforts, Iversoft proposed high-level digital roadmaps for a cloud-based SaaS solution as well as a custom-built platform to connect their website and platforms best. Giving the association the roadmap to execute based on multiple variables allowed YSC to execute their digital transformation successfully while adhering to their internal considerations.
