Removing speed bumps in driving exams
Challenge
The Croatian Automobile Club asked us to build an app for their driving examiners. The main goal was to transform driver exams from paperwork serpentine roads to digitised highways.
Solution
Final exams are stressful – and not just for the candidates. Examiners must grade the candidates' skills using a standardised form with checkboxes, all the while keeping their eyes on the road. Previously, it meant pen-filling in an array of papers, but now everything is nicely organized within a simple-to-use app. EXAMS MANAGED EASILY Each candidate needs to pass three exams to get a driver's licence. The paperwork piles up quickly - and nobody is excited about paperwork. With HAK app, the stacks of papers are neatly organised in a slim tablet and easily accessible at the tap of a finger. SYSTEM-WIDE IMPROVEMENT Within the second examiner hits the final “exam passed” button, the Ministry of Interior’s system is notified. Candidates can then walk into their local police station to pick up their license. Together with the Croatian Automobile Club, we’ve jump-started digitalization in the government sector. EMPOWERING CANDIDATES If need arises, candidates can post a complaint on the spot through the app. Within 60 minutes, they get an official answer from the examiner. Everything is transparent: the reason for approval or rejection, and the next steps for the candidate if the complaint was rejected. IOT INSTEAD OF "HE SAID, SHE SAID" How does the Croatian Automobile Club know what actually happened? A high definition wide-angle camera equipped to the front windscreen films the exam and automatically syncs with the app and HAK’s systems. There’s a video of every exam. It makes resolving complaints more efficient, helps train new examiners, and standardizes practices.
Results
TIME SAVED IS TIME EARNED So far 250.000+ exams have been done through HAK’s examiners app. Using the app saves examiners at least 3 minutes per exam, which adds up to 15,000 hours, or 625 days, or almost 90 weeks in total. Not to mention all the trees spared in the forests!
