Sparkman Wharf
Challenge
Channelside Bay plaza was a retail center located along the Garrison Channel in downtown Tampa. Although the mixed-use property had plenty of restaurants, retail and a movie theater, they were having a hard time capturing the hearts of Tampa’s residents and many tourists. Together with Groundswell Design Group, SPP set out to reimagine the space as Sparkman Warf, a creative redevelopment focused on providing a destination for work, outdoor recreation, and dining.
Solution
To create Sparkman Wharf’s shipping container dining hall, we utilized 18 containers- 9 shipping container kitchens, 1 container bar, 2 containers to create the tower entry way and 6 containers that were stacked on top of the restaurants and display large-scale murals painted by Pep Rally Studios, to incorporate visual elements that speak to the culture and lifestyle in Tampa. Additional design elements include gooseneck lighting fixtures, custom chevron parapet wall, stainless steel countertops, and dual service windows. Each of the kitchens were designed for menus including: French Vietnamese fusion Raw Oyster Bar Chicken Sandwiches and Burgers Coffee Mexican Street Food Spanish-style tapas Seafood Pizza Pops and acai bowls
Results
With a huge influx of visitors, it’s clear that SPP and Groundswell hit the nail on the head. Sparkman Wharf celebrates all the good weather, great views, local music, craft beer and exceptional dining that Tampa has to offer. We look forward to watching the area grow as a community hub.
