Challenge

RecipeIQ is a nutrition app for iOS and Android that displays the nutritional information of any recipe: from a magazine, a newspaper, a cookbook, or online. RecipeIQ’s founder Ken Lesser wanted to position the company as a leading nutrition calculator app, gain more organic exposure, increase the number of downloads, and create a community of food loves. As a new nutrition analyzing app emerging in the extremely competitive industry, we needed to find a way to make the app stand out and be visible in App Store and overall online, for a more successful launch.

Solution

To increase RecipeIQ’s exposure in the app stores and get organic downloads right from the start, we worked on an all encompassing marketing strategy. To create buzz in a very competitive industry, we couldn't rely on one service alone. We needed different channels to get the attention of the right audience. We’ve put our App Store Optimization services to use. We’ve performed ASO with relevant and strong keywords and copy that converts without sounding salesy or pushy. For a mobile app, ASO is very important. Our designers created app screenshots, an app preview video, and a promo video to showcase the UI and let users know what is possible with RecipeIQ. We also worked on the landing page and SEO to bring in organic traffic. Since SEO takes time to show results, we worked on paid to bring traffic to both the landing page and the app stores quickly. Social media played a big part in the app promotion. We worked on growing the pages, collaborating with influencers and podcasters in addition to social media ads. The Scopic team created and grew RecipeIQ’s social media pages on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Pinterest.

Results

The results we’ve achieved in less than 6 months with our marketing efforts are the following: - Over 4500 downloads of the RecipeIQ app - Several active social media communities - Improved organic reach through ASO - Increased exposure on social media and App Store In the first 2 months, RecipeIQ had around 450 downloads per month coming from our ASO and social media efforts. We’ve developed RecipeIQ’s social communities up to: - Instagram – 7000 followers - Twitter – 4800 followers The number of downloads increased by 143%, going from 450 to around 1,5k downloads per month after our influencer marketing campaign.
