Challenge

When the Hamilton Council on Aging approached Kitestring to develop a campaign to raise awareness about dementia, it was clear that the greater community experienced misunderstanding about what dementia was and who it affected.

Solution

We dove into research and exploration with people living with dementia, their care partners, and the greater Hamilton and Haldimand communities to understand how dementia showed up in our community and how we could better support people living with dementia. Through surveys, focus groups, and many compassionate conversations, we gained a much deeper understanding of how to build dementia-friendly communities. After meeting with many people living with dementia and hearing their stories, the campaign revealed itself as the Faces of Dementia. Designed to tell their diverse stories, we partnered with Atomic Spark and Tae Photography to capture videos and photos of many faces of dementia.

Results

Through compelling videos, beautiful posters, and imagery, Faces of Dementia showcases the stories of people living with dementia and their individual messages that they are so much more than their diagnosis. Calling on the community to help build dementia-friendly communities, you can now learn more at www.facesofdementia.ca.
