Plant Growing App Development
Challenge
The client made the strategic decision to diversify their business by leveraging their agricultural expertise to enhance agricultural practices through the use of a mobile application. While virtual assistants are prevalent in various industries, this particular application stands out as one of the few dedicated to agriculture. Initially, the client embarked on an in-house development journey for the plant-growing app but soon realized the need for external assistance, leading them to seek our expertise. The primary challenge at hand was reconciling the abundance of ideas with the constraints of budget and timelines. Consequently, our initial focus was on prioritizing tasks, setting deadlines, and developing the minimum viable product (MVP). Following this crucial phase, we charted a comprehensive roadmap to guide the future development of the mobile farming application, which we continue to follow diligently.
Solution
The concept behind the creation of the farm app was to provide users with a virtual agronomist assistant readily accessible at their fingertips. This app empowers anyone to cultivate plants with the guidance of experienced agronomists, making effective communication with agricultural specialists a cornerstone of the mobile app's development. The project commenced with tight budget constraints and ambitious deadlines aimed at launching a minimum viable product (MVP). However, the continuous addition of new features remained a priority. It was paramount to establish a robust architecture on both the UX/UI and technical fronts to accommodate future functional expansions. Our initial development phase leveraged Firebase services for backend tasks and utilized React Native for mobile applications, a strategy often chosen to expedite project initiation and MVP launch. Presently, the system's backend has evolved into a microservices architecture, encompassing diverse functionalities such as machine learning algorithms, video calls, e-commerce, and more.
Results
The Computer Vision solution serves as a game-changing feature for diagnosing plant diseases through a mobile phone camera. The Machine Learning model was initially developed using an open-source plant disease database and is continually enhanced by the client's team of agronomists.
