Challenge
Our team had the opportunity to work on a fleet management solution, significantly enhancing our expertise in this domain. The system aimed to enable remote management of workers, vehicles, and routing optimization. Developing this fleet management system was both a remarkable endeavor and our most significant challenge at that time. Instead of building it from the ground up, we took over an existing project with the goal of improving the legacy code. Our team began by conducting a thorough code review and implementing modern development practices. It became evident that the chosen development strategy had architectural issues, and the code's quality needed improvement to ensure a seamless operation of the iOS, Android, and web-based fleet management system.
Solution
The initial steps in creating a fleet management system involved refactoring legacy code and improving the system's design. We chose this approach, recognizing that flaws in UX/UI and architectural errors could have severe consequences. Swiftly, we implemented a temporary architectural solution while retaining a significant portion of the existing backend code. However, due to early missteps in UX during mobile app and web development, a substantial portion of the front-end had to undergo a complete overhaul.
Results
The system consists of a fleet management app featuring GPS functionality, order processing, and navigation, alongside a sophisticated web interface for fleet management. This web interface offers flexible role-based permission management. Notably, the interactive cross-platform map stands out, providing navigation, information overlays, and distinct modes tailored to different user roles. Leveraging our expertise in business intelligence and machine learning, we implemented robust data collection and storage procedures for operational data. This data serves as a foundation for subsequent analysis and system automation. Thanks to our ongoing collaboration, the client achieved an impressive 30% reduction in operating costs. Concurrently, the client has accumulated valuable data, which our team has promptly started harnessing to develop machine learning models. These models are aimed at automating features and enhancing the overall system performance.
